KEVIN
COYNE LYRICS - C
Cafe Crazy (Crazy Cafe) (Kevin
Coyne - 1991) (WILD
TIGER LOVE)
Here
comes Big Bertha, spotted dress down to her knees
Here
comes Mad Harold jangling a bunch of keys
Here
comes Big Uta, German right down to the core
One word
out of place and she'll flat you to the floor
Chorus:
This is a crazy bar, this is a crazy place where they've got those mad eyes,
bad looks in their face
Let's
have some optimism here, don't you talk like that, I want to die in the suburbs,
want to die happy and fat.
Here
comes Crazy Coletta carrying a bunch flowers
She'll
pray to the saviour and talk to you for hours and hours
Here
comes Mad Maurice, coat dragging on the floor
He can
shout like a lion, you want to hear him rant and roar
Chorus
Here
comes Bad Dennis, smiling at everyone
He says
that he loves you and Jesus is his son
Here
comes Bad Betty, crying in the rain, if she insults you, she'll insull you
again and again
Chorus
Candlelight
(Robert Coyne/Kevin Coyne - 1999) (ROOM
FULL OF FOOLS)
Oh that
candlelight, oh that natural glow, talking about candlelight, let the honey
flow
Talking
about that candlelight, from a long time ago, talking about that light on
your face (x2), made you look so beautiful, made you look so right, so nice,
wonderful
Candlelight
in that dark cafe, the natural glow swept my senses away
Oh candlelight,
when will you burn again? I miss that beautiful face (x2), you were so beautiful,
so wonderful
Candlelight,
that night, candlelight, that perfect night
You were
so beautiful, so gracious and wonderful, like something form a story book
Candelight,
bless the candlelight, candlelight all those years ago, you were so beautiful,
oh so beautiful, so beautiful (x7)

Carnival
(Robert Coyne/Kevin Coyne - 2002) (CARNIVAL)
We're
at the carnival amidst those big blue-white lights, we're walking hand in
hand through the dark, the purple night, we watch the big wheel turning, spinning
round, the people scream, I wonder if we're really here or are we just in
a dream
I hear
you laugh, you cough, you turn and then you skip around, just like a five
year old, a brand new life, you have found, you say you 'll leave me when
the carnival is done and gone, I wonder if I can find my real way, my way
back home
Crawling
through the tunnel of love (twice), gonna find the light at the end, when
will I reach the light at the end?
Riding
bumper cars, we wheel and we turn, the flares above us, they burn and they
burn, the strongman flexes his muscles and smiles, you'll be leaving in a
very short while
Meet
him at the gate in his big fancy car, take you into town where I know you'll
star at some niterie, down in the gloom, leave me all alone in my bed-sitting
room
Crawling
through the tunnel of love (x6), will I ever reach the light at the end (x2)
Crawling
through the tunnel of love (x2), will I ever reach the light at the end (x3)
Case
History No.2 (Kevin Coyne - 1976) (IN
LIVING BLACK & WHITE)
It
was a sleepy time, sleepy time down South. Eyes was popping out of people's
head as we walked, we talked to each other, we were all in cars, long cars
with blue, with a sort of blue... blue backgrounds, eyes and lights, all together.
And then little Dierdre came out of the bushes, she was dancing with a sort
of pink, sort of a pink slip on and knickers underneath. She was spoiling
for a fight with Barry Brownsword, we did not seem to mind because he was
stone deaf, bereft of feeling of any kind. Suffering from Kleinfelter's Syndrome.
Somebody said, do you know, have you ever heard of a Thelonius Monk? I said
no, I never heard of a Thelonius Monk but then later, of course, as I got
older, I grew to know...nothing at all.
Little
sleepers, little wakers, little takers, standing at the marble slab as they
dress, undress by the whitewashed window that are there and the guns and the
noise of the babies and the children and the boys was to be heard, it's quite
absurd to associate yourself with me. I'm afraid I just laid an Easter egg
with a picture on the front, I can't afford the chocolate, no and the voice
growing as we grow old and old and old and old and old and old.
Now there
is somebody who came up there to me yesterday and he was talking about life,
now life not being part of life as I know, it was all involved with a case
of prostitution in Bow St. Court. Knives and forks were drawn, there was a
little skirmish with a fat woman on the stairs, she's quite big, I pricked
her breast with a large, oh well not so large but just a pin and they burst,
something fell around and we all sort of dribbled down the street, several
policemen were there to watch it go as if fell, as it smelt slightly and then
out came a roadsweep with a large black brush, a black brush. A black brush,
no, this is not a point to play or to sing but only to talk about the black
brush, the black brush being very large, not my head or your head but somebody's
head, somebody's dead head, lying within just a little encased, just like
cream buns inside a large oven and then they pulled them out and they said:
Is he yours? Do you know him? He has a piece of paper in his pocket which
says; He knows you. And I say, rather like St Thomas: no, I don't know, I
don't know him, I don't know him.
I'm not
tired but then I might just be a little tired
I'm not
worried but then I might just be a little buggered
We pretend
we know but we don't really know each other
Show
me holes and arms and I'll show you all the charms of each other
Knights
of the Bushido that we are, we never find the bra, the bra of our mother
As we
dance on fetid beds, we stand upon our heads, entertaining of each other
I'm not
so well that I can tell you anything at all
I'm not
undressed that you see the level best of me when I say I love you
I try
to mean it
Celestial
Bride (Robert Coyne/Kevin Coyne - 1999) (ROOM
FULL OF FOOLS)
Call
me Mr. Lucky, call me Mr. Right, here I'm sitting with my TV tonight, channel
4, channel 5, channel 9, it 's alright, and the ship is on the lawn, the silver
cone pointing to the deep, deep blue, to home, the door is open, open wide,
you wait at the door my celestial bride, you wait with a smile at my curly
head, the sun it rises over my bed, the TV flickers on and off, on and off,
flickers on and off, I turn to you, you smile and cough, you point to the
sky (x2), to the deep deep blue, to the broad bye and bye, you point to the
sky, we go arm in arm across the lawn, our journey's just begun (x2) flickering
on and on, the TV, channel no 5, no 9, no 19, which is the one, which is the
one that will guide us home? On and on
Chairman's
Ball (Kevin Coyne - 1973) (MARJORY
RAZORBLADE)
Everybody's
dancing, yes, at the chairman's ball
Everybody's
prancing, yes, at the chairman's ball
You can
see the mayor and his wife
Dancing
there the first time in their lives
You can
see the chief of police
Dancing
with his only niece
At the
ball oh the chairman's ball
Well,
you;ve got to get your ticket and go now for the chairman's ball
Anyone
who's anyone is in the know about oh the chairman's ball
The committee,
they're all there
Sitting
in their roped-off square
All the
patients, they're in a line
And every
one of them is feelin' fine
At the
ball oh the chairman's ball oh the chairman's ball
Well
now soon as midnight comes around at the chairman's ball
You know
you know you can't be found at the chairman's ball
Now you
know you've had your fun
Now you
know you've got to run
Now you
know you've had your fun
Be thankful
nobody used a gun
At the
ball oh the chairman's ball
Chances
(Hans Pukke/Kevin Coyne - 1990) (ROMANCE
ROMANCE )
Ah,
the strangeness strangles on ?? cardboard walls
I
hear your stereo playing a tune that makes me crawl
Ah,
the memories and the wine is strong tonight
I
can see a vision of why things didn't go right
I
gave too much and you gave just enough, enough for me
It
was ?? I was bleeding
But
you refused to see
Chorus:
Ah the way we used to dance
Ah,
the perfume of romance
Ah,
the chance we took with life, with life, with life.
Now
I'm slowly crawling across this great big floor
Reaching
for the telephone, I'm gonna call you once more
Tomorrow's
another day but it may not arrive
I've
got to hear your voice, got to know love's still alive
Chorus
(x2)
Charlene
(Robert Coyne/Kevin Coyne/Michael Lipton - 2002) (CARNIVAL)
I'm
going round to Charlene's house
I'm going
to play with her video games
Bounce
around upon her big settee
Gaze
with lust at her beautiful knees
Chorus:
I might marry her when I get my divorce, just might marry her when I get my
divorce.
I'm going
round to Charlene's house
I'm
going to eat a pizza pie
Watch
her as she decorates her living room
And she
turns and looks at me, and gives me the eye
Chorus
I'm going
round to Charlene's house
I hope
her husband will be away
He spends
weeks out in the country
Charlene's
lonely and she doesn't find it very funny
She
believes in ghosts, she thinks the house is creepy
She daren't
go to the bathroom after eight o'clock
Chorus
(x2)
When
my divorce comes through, Charlene, I, I'll marry you, when my divorce comes
through, Charlene, I'II marry you, it' s a promise (x4), I'll marry you
Charming
(Hans Pukke/Kevin Coyne/Robert Steinhart/Falk Steffen - 1987)
(STUMBLING
ONTO PARADISE)
Had
a crazy dream one winter's night
Shadows
on my walls through the crisp moonlight
A surburbean
siren calling me back home
I told
her to go away and leave me alone
Chorus:
But she was charming, oh so charming, oh she was charming and she was hot
Charming,
oh so charming, charming and she was hot.
The nightmares
kept coming, they wouldn't go away
Closed
my ears and eyes but heard what she said
Whispering
and calling, "Baby please come home
"Come
back to the suburbs, to my suburban home"
Chorus
I'd sooner
be lonely, living on my own
Gets
desesperate sometimes but it's better that way
I'd sooner
be lonely, living in the dark
Than
trapped in suburbia with those terrible sharks
You know
she was charming, oh so charming, she got money and she was hot
Charming,
oh so charming, she got money and she was hot hot hot (ad lib)
Don't need
your money, I prefer living on my own, don't need your money, honey

Everybody
knows that the baby gets the blues
I feel sometimes
I'm wasted, wasted all my life away
I'm wishing
and I'm wondering, looking for a happy day
I get that
Zanzibar moon, it shines shines so bright
Up into the
mythical night, it shines shines so bright
I'm looking
for the moon of light (x2)
I want to
find a way (x4)
I've got to

Chicken
Wing (Kevin Coyne - 1973) (MARJORY
RAZORBLADE, LET'S HAVE A PARTY)
Well,
it started at a party, it started at a party
Everybody
there was getting hale and hearty
Saying:
How do you do it? How do you do that thing? (x2)
I said
I don't how to do it but I'm calling it the Chicken Wing
Yes,
you take a piece of this and you take a piece of that
You might
as well to try to skin a mangy cat
But,
how do you do it now? How do you do that thing?
Saying:
How do you do it? How do you do that thing?
Don't
how to do it but I call it the Chicken Wing
I was
drivin' in may car Just the other day
A big
fat bus gettin' in my way
I said:
What you're doing there? He said: I'm only doing my thing (x2)
I call
it one thing, yes, I call it the Chicken Wing
Yes they're
shaking it high and low, everyone in town, wherever I go
Everybody's
crying and boppin' heads , Everybody goin' "Cock a doodle doodle doo!"
Now they've
taken it all, all over the world, every little boy and every little girl says
Saying:
How do you do it? How do you do that thing? (x2)
Well
I don't how to do it but I call it the Chicken Wing
Cock
a doodle doodle doo
Well
listen you all now, listen to me, you can't do this dance if you're under
three
But if
you wanna do it, if you want to do your thing
If you
want to do your thing, Go on and do it!
Call
it the Chicken Wing
Cock
a doodle doodle doo
I don't
how to do it but I'm calling it the Chicken Wing
Children
of the Deaf (Kevin Coyne/Steve Lamb - 1981) (POINTING
THE FINGER)
Does
anybody ever listen to me?
Does
anybody ever listen to you?
Are they
all deaf, dumb and blind?
Does
anybody ever listen to you? (x2)
Does
anybody listen to what I say?
Does
anybody listen anyway?
Are we

Childrens
Crusade (Kevin Coyne - 1980)
(BURSTING
BUBBLES )
Some
good advice for children today
Is don't
you let the terror hold sway
Listen
to the wise ones when they talk
Maybe
you can run before you walk
A new
childrens crusade (x2)
Arms
upstretched and arms all splayed
Looking
at the love they made (like they do in books)
Some
good advice to those who doubt
Some
wise words for those who shout
Look
into the face of a child
It's
like a ball of fire
Ah the
childrens crusade
Marching
with feet lightly made
Across
grass that is always sweet
Nothing
tidy and nothing neat (like in books)
Ooh la
la, it's nice to be so fine
It goes
much deaper than just simply being kind
It's
eye to eye staring, caring out
The new
generation knows what that's all about
Oh the
childrens crusade, oh those golden plains
Oh the
sounds that they make
Sometimes
they scream but their hearts don't break (like in books)
Like
in your books
Like
in your Mickey Mouse
Like
in your books
Throw
away your books
Choose
(Kevin Coyne - 1974) (BLAME
IT ON THE NIGHT)
Well
one is the fat one on his own
The
other's a king on a golden throne
Choose baby, choose baby, choose, choose
One's
a blond, long blond hair
The
other never changes his underwear
Choose
baby, choose, baby choose
Well
as for me - I don't mind
Sometimes
I think I'm deaf and blind
I
never
Choose
baby, choose baby, choose
Choosing's
not easy
When
there's nowhere to go
Choosing's
not easy, no
They
all say I love you so (x3)
Well,
oh I do, I do, make a choice
So
if you're the fat one on your own
I'll
be the king on the golden throne
Gotta
choose baby, choose baby, choose
You
got to choose baby, choose baby, choose
Choose
baby, choose baby, choose
Make
a choice
Choose
baby, choose baby, choose (x2)
City
Crazy (Hans
Pukke/Kevin Coyne - 1988) (EVERYBODY'S
NAKED)
Oh
mercy mercy, there's a train trough my head
It's
got big headlights and it's taking me for dead
Looking
out my window at the big placards
There's
a man with a big red nose and he's laughing oh so hard
I can
see the traffic, hear it roaring all the time
And every
car that passes by it's going through this head of mine
Chorus:
City crazy, and its driving me mad (x4)
Freedom
- Money (x4).
The walls
are closing in, crack in the ceiling there
Everything
that comes through here is foul and bad air
The
smoke is pouring through the garden, ripping up the weeds
See an
old lady standing by, her head it starts to bleed
Chorus
I'm just
rolling around looking for a place
Where
people don't laugh at me and they like my face
I've
been like this for years searching high and low
For a
country place and somewhere peaceful to go
Chorus
Freedom
- Money (ad lib)
Club Rondo (see On
Holiday)
Coconut
Island
(Kevin Coyne - 1976) (HEARTBURN
CD)
City
crazy trapped in a limousine, searching for sunlight, fields of green
Sea gulls
swirling, fat blue sky, got to find a home before I die
Chorus:
A coconut island way across the sea
A coconut
island way across the sea (x2)
I got
to get running cause I want to be free.
I'm sick of high rise, I'm sick of low, terrible traffic everywhere I go
Blowing light bulbs, flashing sands, there must be somewhere, somewhere I
can call mine
Chorus
I've had the warnings now I've got to go ?? to ease your pace I've gotta
to be slow
Lie in the sand with the sand tipping my toes, let me see that big blue sea
let it overflow
Chorus
Coconut
Island
(Kevin Coyne - 1976) (IN LIVING BLACK
& WHITE)
You've
had the warnings, you heard all the signs
The black
armada is coming and not before time
Watch
your chidren, see what they say
They're
cowering in corners, I saw mine today
Chorus:
Coconut island way across the sea (x2)
Coconut
island home for you and me
You'd
better get running if I want to be free
I
say you'd better get running now if I want to be free.
I don't
mean to be prejudiced cause I'm not really that
I just
want them to understand I know where it's at, man
If you
don't like me, just because of what I am
I've
been through it too don't you see
I'm also
a man
Chorus
I'm frightened,
I really am
I didn't
want to be, you don't understand
Running
in packs through the streets
Blood
in the sweet shops
Leave
all my sweets
Chorus
Come
back home (Kevin Coyne - 2004) (DONUT
CITY )
Come
back come back home (4x)
I can't
wait a moment longer (2x)
I'm struggling
here, I'm sweating here
At the
bottom of the stairs (2x)
Come
back home, I can't wait (3x)
A moment
longer (x2)
Shuddering
at the bottom of the stairs I wait for you, I wait night and day and the grey
turns to blue
Come
back home
Come
Down Here (Kevin Coyne - 1979) (BABBLE)
(Come
on) (repeat)
Chorus:
Come down here, why don't you come, come down here? (x2)
Your
lines are crossed, you seem to lose
Everytime
you get depressed, you rush, you rush, you rush to the booze
Chorus
You race
around like a man on the town (with no money)
They
will put you down, I'm your one, I'm your honey bunch
Come
down here, why don't you come, come down here?
Come
down here, why don't you come, please come down here?
Nightmares
I know, they can spoil the daylight glow
Build
on top of your head, drive you silent into bed
Daytimes,
they are rough, come down to see me, I will show you some stuff
Well
a better night, I will persevere
Alright,
I won't give in
Come
down here, you know it's not a sin
Come
Silver Sands (Kevin Coyne/Achim Goettert - 1999) (OPERA
FOR SYD DREIEINIGKEITSKIRCHE)
Come silver
sands
Brightning
up the precious sea
Come flying
birds, come over
Flap down
on me
Come silver
sands
Brightning
up the sea
Come all you
pecking birds
Take a bite
out of me
Come silver
sands
Emblazon the
life in me
Set my blood
raging round and round
Take away,
take away the misery
Come silver
sands
Lighting up
the grey
Send the flying
birds over head
Come and make
my day (x2)
Make my day
Come silver
sands
Whitening
up the sky
Set the stars
rolling through my head
And never
ask why
Come silver
sands
Of those precious
days
Spent in little
shops by the sea
Giving our
love away
We gave it
away
Gave it all
away
We gave it
away
Gave it all
away
We gave it
all away
All that love
away (x2)
Gave it all
away
All that love
away
It was really
so simple
Easy to give
it away
Giving that
love away
On all those
sunny days
White silver
sands
Remember you
and me
Spending happy
happy days
Time is eternity
(x2)
White silver
sands, you and me, time is eternity, everything's alright, nothing to worry
about, you'll be ok, everything's gonna be alright, it's a rapid change in
life, you've not got to worry in any way, you might have to see a doctor one
day, but that's normal, you get old, everybody gets old, that's the way it
is, sometimes it happens that way, fame it fades away, life is just the same,
white silver sands, all those golden days in summer when when when?
When?
Crazy
Dream (Kevin Coyne - 1995) (CRAZY FRANK)
I
could win all your love (four times)
If I
just stayed sober, if I just stayed clean
I would
realise all of my dreams, my dreams, my dreams, little dreams
I could
be a king of the scene (four times)
If I
just stayed sober, if I just stayed clean
I would
realise all of my dreams, my dreams, my dreams, my dreams
So play
the trumpets, let's hear the violins (x2)
I'm
going to stay sober, I'm going to stay clean
And then
I'll realise all of my crazy dreams, crazy dreams, crazy dreams, crazy crazy
dreams (ad lib)
Creeper (the)

Roses
die and sky is black, since you've been messing round my back, I can't sleep
and I can't eat
I'm begging
please (x2) don't let the creeper come
Dizzy
dizzy late at night, I'm drunk and lost my appetite, those ghosts they hover
everywhere
I'm begging
please (x3) don't let the creeper come, don't let them come, don't let them
come
He pleases,
he teases (x2) ah yes he does
Crying,
crying in the rain, doubled up with mental pain, since you've been gone nothing
to do
But beg
please, please, don't let the creeper come, don't let them come, don't let
them come
He pleases,
he teases (ad lib)
Cripples Parade (Kevin Coyne
- 1977) (CELLAR TAPS VOL.1)
Oh
I was crying all the time
Poking
my eyes through the linoleum to the sky
Dancing,
I never dance, I forgot how to dance
I hope
I can find a way to dance some day, some day
I was
on the cripples parade (x2)
Look
at the mistakes I've made
Oh I
met you and then we all fell down
It was
just after the war my dear
Everybody
was frowning
Little
black houses, little canal
Nobody
was there but now the sun has changed
Is there
anybody there? Anybody there? Anybody
I was
on the cripples parade (x3)
Oh how
we dance, dance, dance, dance
Around
the ballroom
The lights,
the chandeliers have gone away
Oh don't
let them go away (x2)
Oh there's
a rainbow
It's
not just a dream
?? of
water
You can
make the tea
Bring
me something that's nice
I can
feel it coming on
On and
on and on, is that a parachute?
I sink,
fly down to ??
I'm still
on the cripples parade (x2)
Look
at the mistakes I've made (x3)
Crocodile
(Kevin Coyne - 2004) (DONUT
CITY )
I
woke up this morning crocodile at my door ail that green and yellow slime
it was dripping from his jaws I said are you the milkman he said I'm not that
at all I'm just your neighbourhood crocodile making a courtesy call I said
that's nice now come inside have some toast and tea he smiled a great big
crocodile smile said that would be a pleasure for me then he stared, stared
so hard directly in my eyes he said you're not so very old yes you're too
young to die I said to him that's very kind L know you like human flesh he
said yes, with potatoes carrots and peas it's flesh I love the best he said
I don't want victims I don't want slaves if you smile for me and be my friend
you'll live for a million days so I smiled and smiled and smiled and smiled
smiled for a long three hours I smiled and smiled and smiled and smiled smiled
for a long six hours I smiled and smiled and smiled and smiled for a long
nine hours I smiled and I smiled and I smiled and I smiled for a long twelve
hours well I woke with a start woke all in a daze I could feel the crocodile
crawling slowly slowly away crawling up my garden path and out my garden gate
I lived in the crocodile to be in the dark was my fate I wished I'd been a
little bird and never opened the door I could fly around the big blue sky
don't live in the dark no more don't want to live in this dark no more don't
live in this dark no more live in this dark no more

Did you ever
go to Sugartown?
Did you ever
wear those crocodile shoes?
Did you ever
cry away your blues?
Did you ever
think of Imelda Marcos, the Philippines?
The music
of the Royal Teams?
Did you hear
it? Are you still there?
Are you blind?
Don't you care? (x5)
In a junky
heaven, they all wear crocodile shoes
In a junky
junky heaven, they all all wear crocodile shoes
Do you care
or are you blind?
Do you care
what's on my mind?
Do you care
or are you blind?
Do you really
care what's on my mind?
The strangest
story ever told
It was the
strangest story ever told
Crocodile
shoes, remember real crocodile shoes
The gift of
silence is a golden thing (x2)
As precious
as a diamond ring or a pair of crocodile shoes

Cycling (Kevin
Coyne - 1984) (LEGLESS
IN MANILLA)
We
followed mindless gurus in Siam
We tried
to reach the peak of Zion
We came
to the point but there was no point but...
We just kept
on cycling (x4) cycling, cycling
Sing
it: We just kept on cycling
We blamed
poor El Salvador
Little
Nicaragua too
We blamed
an Irishman in wellingtons
And we
blamed it on the Jews but...
We just
kept on cycling (x4)
Sing
it: We just kept on cycling
We blamed
it on the size of skulls
We said
it was to do with bones
We looked
into psychiatry
And discovered
we were all alone and...
We just
kept on cycling (x3)
Sing
it: We just kept on cycling
Now when
we were twenty-five
We thought
we knew the score
Until
we had to pay for bricks and mortar
Until
we had to build our own kitchen door
And we
just kept on cycling (x3)
Sing
it: We just kept on cycling
Now the
powerhouses of rythm'n'blues
Those
who love rock'n'roll
Some
of them are well into their forties now
But they
still got some soul and
They
just keep on cycling
They
just keep on cycling (you punks)
They
just keep on cycling
